How do I safeguard my card?
  • Check your bank account frequently to make sure all transactions look correct. If you notice something that looks suspicious, contact us immediately.
  • Look closely at gas pumps and ATMs for skimmers that might be placed over the card slot. Don’t insert your card if the card slot or keypad looks suspicious. Cover your hand when you type your PIN.
  • If shopping online, we do not recommend using your debit card since it is linked to your bank account and isn’t as easy to dispute as a credit card. If you use your debit card, use only trusted sites and brands. Look for the green padlock icon and “HTTPS://” to ensure you’re on a secure site.
  • Do not lend your card to anyone. Protect them as if they were cash. Card misuse is often traced back to family and friends.
  • Use the card controls within online or mobile banking to turn your card on/off, set travel notices, or increase balances.

What is overdraft protection?

Overdraft protection is a service offered to avoid costly overdraft fees. It works by linking your checking account to another account, such as a savings account or line of credit. If your checking account has insufficient funds to cover a transaction, the bank will automatically transfer funds from the linked account to cover the transaction, thus avoiding an overdraft fee.

To take advantage of this service and make the transfer, there must be money in the savings or line of credit account. At Wolf River Community Bank, it is complimentary to sign up for overdraft protection and there’s a small fee when the overdraft occurs. Once set up and an overdraft occurs, we will pull from your savings or line of credit in increments of $100.
